The
4th of July is totally a guy's holiday: barbecues, fireworks,
and action-packed summer blockbuster debuts. This year's was
Transformers, offering perhaps the most cgi-candy ever seen in
a film. Travel back with us as we look at a few of the greatest
4th of July releases from years past.
Apollo 13 - The compelling true story of how a group of astronauts
salvaged a doomed space mission. Moral of the story: even in space nothing
ever f*cking works right.
Terminator 2 - One day your kids will say, "What?!
Schwarzenegger used to be an actor?" and you can knowingly reply, "Not
a very good one, although at least one of his movies totally kicked ass anyway."
Independence
Day - At the end of this movie, the President- dressed in a fighter
pilot jumpsuit- declares mission accomplished... after they
actually win the war against the aliens. Who da thunk it?
Men
in Black -
Will Smith seems to be the go-to guy when it comes to taking down aliens.
First ID4, then MiB. If they'd swapped Cruise for Smith in War of the Worlds,
the movie would have been a lot shorter. And funnier.
Die Hard 2 - A movie
about terrorists storming an airport and crashing planes... yeah, like THAT
could ever happen. Still, it's arguably Willis' best work ever. Yippee ki
yay mutherf*ckers! |
