On Hiatus

August 1st, 2007

1987_icon.jpgDear Readers,

We’re off on vacation for a bit, seeing the sights, exploring the world, meeting colorful and exotic people with strange and interesting customs… and laughing at them while snapping dozens of pictures. You know, tourist stuff.

We’ll be back in a few weeks, fresh and rested and ready to serve up more heaping helpings of everything you never knew existed and can’t live without.

Till then, don’t do anything we wouldn’t do… but if you do, do it better.

The World Without Us

July 18th, 2007

1895_icon.jpgIt seems like every time we turn on the Discover Channel, all we hear about (other than sharks) is the hundred and one ways humanity might potentially be destroyed at any second (give or take a few million years). There’s a made-for-TV-movie about every possible gruesome fate. But one thing we notice missing is a look into what will happen after we’re gone. (more >>)

Gallery 1988

June 29th, 2007

1764_icon.jpgWhen it comes to decorating our walls, we admit to being at a bit of a loss. The best we can usually muster is either prints of famous paintings, or kitchy posters for Guinness Beer, neither of which are really relevant to our tastes. But we’ve finally found an art gallery that speaks our language. (more >>)

GeoCaching

June 18th, 2007

1693_icon.JPGToday we learned that there’s a secret stash magnetically attached to the underside of a bench not far from our office. There’s also one tucked behind a stone wall near the Colluseum in Rome, one wedged under a rock on the summit of a mountain in New Hampshire, and a couple hundred thousand others scattered across the planet. You’ve probably passed by dozens in your daily life without ever knowing it. (more >>)

Summer Reading: Web Books

June 15th, 2007

1681_icon.jpgBecoming a celebrity online is tougher than in Hollywood. It takes a lot more than just a deeply disturbing- but well documented- personal life and a good publicist to compete for attention against the millions of sites out there. That’s why books written by well-known web personalities usually make for some great reading. As usual, we have a few favorites to share, so if you’re looking for a good book for the beach, plane, or anywhere else, look no further. (more >>)

Gestures: Do’s and Taboos

May 2nd, 2007

gestures_icon.jpgYou’re on vacation in Australia. Driving down a country road, you stop your car to step out and get some fresh air. A passing car stops, and the big Aussie behind the wheel asks if everything is alright. You say “Yep,” and give him a smile and a big thumbs up. He then gets out of his car and proceeds to beat the shit out of you.

It’s a shame you didn’t know that in Australia, giving someone a thumbs up is roughly equivalent to flipping them off. (more >>)

The Wii Diet

April 9th, 2007

wiidiet_icon.jpgVideo gamers have long been stereotyped as, well… fat slobs. So far, gaming has been a pretty sedentary experience, requiring nothing more than some manual dexterity and the strength to lick the Cheeto’s dust from your fingers. But with the advent of the Wii, and all of it’s motion sensing wonder, gamers have the option of getting up and actually, you know, moving around a bit.

Your move, fatties.

Chong’s Vlog

March 22nd, 2007

chong_icon.jpgOne of the world’s most infamous stoners, Tommy Chong (of Cheech and Chong. If you’re under the age of 20, ask your parents who he is), has started his own video blog. I’m kind of impressed, I had thought the whole stoner thing was mainly an act. Turns out he’s every bit as baked in real life as he is in his movies.
