New Wii Toys

July 19th, 2007

This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (the big yearly video game trade show, for non gamers) was a much lower-key occasion than in the past, depressingly lacking in the bright lights, gaudy displays, and half-naked babes of yesteryear. But while not much flesh was revealed, some cool upcoming accessories for the Wii were. Not quite as exciting, but bear with us.

Zapper

It’s kind of hard to play a Wii shooting game while trying to pretend that you’re blasting bad guys with something that looks like an albino tv remote. The Wii Zapper, which will be released later this year, promises to not only add to the immersion factor, but also tighten the precision on the Wiimote’s aim. The video linked below is priceless, not because it gives any new info, but because Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime is the cheesiest public speaker on the planet.

Balance Board

It has sensors inside that measure pressure, allowing you to control things by standing on it and shifting your weight. Wii Fit has been tested by various journalists who all agreed that it’s distinctive blend of slow and measured balancing exercises, including arobics, yoga, and muscle stretches, provide a rigorous and fun workout. Keep in mind these are video game journalists, so their definition of rigorous might vary somewhat from yours.
